Nippon TV visiting

The Malmsten store will be included in the very popular Japanese TV show "Sekai! Dangan Torabera" where the model Sonomi travels around the world bullet-shopping! We are very proud that the Malmsten store was hand picked by the Japanese team and hope estimated 13 million Japanese will enjoy the show later on this year.

Behind bars!

Despite the fact that we are hidden behind bars due to work with the façade of our house, we are still open and running! We keep celebrating 70 years at the same address. Welcome in, through the barricades.

Time for wedding

Every spring for the last 70 years the Malmsten shop has met springtime by the waterfront of Strandvägen in Stockholm. And every year we are just as filled with joy and energy from returning sunlight and tender green. This year we present an exhibition on a wedding theme in collaboration with some of the most interesting Swedish craft artists.

The shelf Glue by Erika Janunger is only available att the Malmsten store, Strandvägen, Stockholm. Glue is a product that sprung out of Erika's exam work at Konstfack Art School named Weightless   

Last week with MONOCLE

Sunday 14th March our fantastic collaboration with MONOCLE will come to its end and we will close down The MONOCLE X Malmsten Spring Shop. Malmsten X Monocle party!

Tyler Brûlé, editor in chief of Monocle, and Jerk Malmsten, CEO of Malmsten, have launched The MONOCLE X Malmsten Seasonal Shop together with 450 specially invited guests at the Malmsten Store. It was a magic evening when Stockholm celebrated this fusion of design, craft and culture!

The countdown continues, with only a few days to go before launching the MONOCLE X Malmsten Seasonal Shop we are all very excited. In heavy snowfall products from Comme des Garçons, Drakes, Porter and others arrive to the Malmsten Store. We can't wait to get this fantastic collaboration going!

Malmsten inspires Acne

The Swedish fashion brand Acne has launched its first range of furniture, at the Hôtel Pozzo di Borgo in Paris. Jonny Johansson and his team have created five unique interpretations of Carl Malmsten's sofa Nya Berlin. Their method has been to apply a fashion design perspective to a classic furniture design. The result is interesting and makes you want to see where they will go next.

Fight the dark - light a candle

We are right now having the shortest days of the year, darkness is waiting around the corner. Luckily there is a fantastic way to fight the darkness - light a genuine candle. Place it on the table while having breakfast and your day will take off very nice. Only remember to put it out before leving home. If you get snow, don't forget to make a snow lantern outside your house. It's not only beautiful, it also makes it easier for Santa to find his way!

Malmsten from Monocle's point of view

In the November issue of Monocle magazine the main feature in the Design part is an article about Swedish design legend Carl Malmsten, by editor Sarah Balmond. The reader is offered a generous introduction to the world of Malmsten with visits at schools, factorys and the shop at Strandvägen, Stockholm. Interesting and inspiring reading for grey and dull autumn evenings.

Carl & Märta – a dynamic duo!

In 1917 both Carl Malmsten and Märta Måås-Fjetterström participated at an exhibition at Liljevalchs art gallery in Stockholm. From 1923 and on they collaborated successfully. Their interiors were awarded in both Paris 1925 and New York 1927 and later on they delivered furniture and artrugs to Waldorf Astoria Hotel, N.Y. This autumn you can take part of the fantastic heritage of Märta Måås-Fjetterström, once more at Liljevalchs art gallery. In one of the halls she's got comany from her old friend Carl Malmsten - World Class!

Ingmar Bergman's first choice; Malmsten

When the Auction House of Bukowskis conduct the sale of Ingmar Bergman's possesion, monday 28th at 3 p.m. there are numerous of Carl Malmsten pieces at the stand. Bergman favoured the master designer Carl Malmsten and bought his furniture at several occasions. He preferred furniture in a rustic rather simple style, and he favoured pine wood, well suited for his Fårö home. All the pieces can be produced today and bought through the Malmsten Store at Strandvägen in Stockholm. During this autumn the store will present a Ingmar Bergman Selection with some of the pieces from the director's home.

Reopening of Malmstenbutiken

After 18 months of renovating and rebuilding the Malmstenbutiken at Strandvägen 5B in Stockholm opens up again. On Monday February 2 at 17 hrs p.m. there will be an event for invited only.

Tuesday February 3 at 10 the store opens up for the general public.
During these 18 months the store has grown and offers today 300m² of Swedish high quality interior design.

Martin Bergström dresses up Giant Toad (Jättepaddan)

Man of many talents, designer Martin Bergström has composed a pattern for hand printed fabrics for Malmstenbutiken. It was designed for Carl Malmstens classic armchair Jättepaddan (Giant toad), this year celebrating its 75th anniversary.

Martin Bergstöm found inspiration among the tree roots under ground. Suits very well for dressing up a toad.

There will be a limited edition of 10 unique armchairs covered in Bergströms fabric and sold at Malmstenbutiken.
